How to play spin the bottle
One phone, one circle, no setup. The rules fit on a napkin.
- 01
Sit in a circle
Everyone sits around a table or on the floor with the phone flat in the middle, screen up.
- 02
Spin the bottle
One player taps the bottle. It spins fast, then winds down to a stop on its own.
- 03
Read the direction
The neck points at whoever sits where it stops. The compass point and the exact angle appear under the dial.
- 04
Pass the turn
That player answers a question or takes a dare, then spins next. There is no winner — play until you get bored.
House rules worth agreeing on
Thirty seconds of setup saves a whole awkward evening.
- 1
Set boundaries first
Say out loud what is off-limits before the first spin — especially with people you do not know well.
- 2
A pass is always allowed
Nobody has to answer or act. Skipping costs nothing and keeps the game fun for everyone.
- 3
Landed between two players?
Agree in advance: spin again, or whoever sits closest to the neck is it.
- 4
What happens in the circle stays there
Do not repeat what someone admitted once the game is over.
Keep the questions light and stop the moment someone looks uncomfortable. It is a party game, not a dare contest.
Ways to play
The bottle picks the player — you pick the format.
Classic
Whoever the neck points at answers a question from the player who spun.
Truth or dare
The chosen player picks truth or dare, and the spinner sets the question or the task.
Dares only
Skip the questions and hand out small, harmless dares instead.
Two to four players
Short rounds for a quiet night in — no big group needed.
Need a direction instead of a person?
The arrow spinner points at compass directions — handy for walks, board games and deciding which way to go.
Spin the bottle FAQ
Is this spin the bottle game free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account, and runs in any browser on a phone, tablet or desktop.
Do I need to download an app?
No. The bottle runs in the page itself — open the link, lay the phone down and spin.
How does the bottle decide where to stop?
The stopping angle comes from the browser's random number generator. The extra turns only animate the bottle and cannot steer the result.
Can two people play?
Yes. Two players facing each other across the phone works fine, and so does a circle of ten.
What if it points between two players?
Decide before the first spin: either spin again, or whoever sits closest to the neck is it.
Does it work offline?
After the first load, yes. The bottle is drawn and spun by your browser, so spinning needs no connection.
Is the game saved anywhere?
No. Nothing leaves your device — no account, no history, no server-side storage.
Is it OK to play with kids?
The bottle itself is neutral — it only picks a player. Keep your own questions age-appropriate and skip the dares.
